When removing stripper rubber, reverse steps 4 through 6 remembering that the stripper rubber has LEFT HANDED THREADS. TURN TO THE RIGHT TO REMOVE! |
BEARING ASSEMBLY
INSTALLATION
After the stripper rubber has been secured to the bearing assembly:
- Pick up the kelly and one joint of drill pipe, set the slips in the rotary table and break off a drill pipe connection.
- Using an air hoist pick up the bearing assembly with stripper rubber attached with the lifting hooks.
- Screw the starting mandrel on the drill pipe and using pipe dope for lubrication, stab the drill pipe through the bearing assembly and the stripper rubber.
- With the bearing assembly and stripper rubber on the drill pipe, remove the starting mandrel and remake your connection.
- Make sure that the clamps on the bowl are open wide enough to accept the bearing assembly.

- Lower the bearing assembly with stripper rubber through the rotary table and into the bowl making sure that the stop lug on the bearing assembly is at the front or the back of the clamps. (see photo above)
WHEN PLACING THE BEARING ASSEMBLY IN THE BOWL, MAKE SURE THAT THE STOP LUG ON THE BEARING ASSEMBLY IS AT THE FRONT OR THE BACK OF THE CLAMPS.
- Close clamps around bearing assembly and tighten swing bolt with a pipe wrench and a cheater bar.
- Hook up oil system hoses and start drilling.
- After one or two connections recheck the swing bolt to make sure that the clamp remains tight, and continue to check at least one time per tower.
